Sir John Soane’s Museum

Sir John Soane’s Museum is the house-museum of 18th century architect and Professor of Architecture at the Royal Academy Sir John Soane. In 1806 he began to arrange the books, casts and models in his house for students to look at and use. Soane then proposed opening his house the day before and after his lectures so that his students could look at the collection, and soon it became known as an “Academy of Architecture”. It has been open to students and the public for free ever since and welcomes 110,000 visitors every year.
